A disqualification narrative is the specific story you are running about yourself that decides, before you even try, that you are not the kind of person this works for. Not consciously. You would never say it out loud. But it runs every day, quietly, underneath everything.

It sounds like this.

I've wasted too many years for this to change now.

Other people have what it takes. I keep proving I don't.

God can use anyone but I have too much history for this.

I believe in change. I just don't believe it's coming for me.

That narrative is not a character flaw. It is a loop. A loop with specific steps, a specific entry point, and a specific exit.

I know this loop well. I spent twenty-six years in pastoral ministry. The first eighteen were purposeful. Excellent ministry. Real results. Real impact. I was exactly where I believed I was supposed to be.

Then the circumstances changed. I brought everything I had. The work was still meaningful. But I did not have to stretch to get results. And that comfort became its own kind of prison. I knew, the way you know something you cannot say out loud, that I was operating at a fraction of who God had made me to be.

For eight years I carried a burning desire to not maintain the status-quo. Not because I wasn't seeing results but because I knew there was more. I preached purpose every Sunday while privately asking: is this all there is? Carrying unfulfilled dreams I could not say out loud to anyone.

What I eventually found is that the loop is not random. It is structured. And anything with structure can be interrupted.
